Brief description of Akhenaten and the Amarna period. The author discusses: a) the events; b) the religion. A translation of the Aten Hymn is given. The author wonders if the Aten religion did have any connection with Hebrew monotheism or perhaps influenced it; c) the art, especially the royal portraiture; d) politics, the relation with the vassals and allies as evidenced by the Amarna letters; e) the end of Amarna.
