Bullfighting scenes are depicted in a number of Egyptian tombs dating from the Old, Middle and New Kingdoms, as well as on certain objects as a decorative motif. The significance of such representations has been discussed by scholars with various conclusions. This article assesses these previous studies and discusses new discoveries at Akhmim, at the Old Kingdom sites of El-Hawawish and El-Hagarsa.
