Controlling human suffering: terminology of divine mercy in ancient Egypt and in ancient Israel

The focus of the article are stelae from Deir el Medina (e.g. Oxford Ashmolean 1961.232) that have been frequently cited as parallels to certain Bibliocal psalms. They are inscribed with personal prayers of the workmen. The study investigates the term Htp, the concept of divine mercy.
