Interpreting a curious architectural element in the tomb of Khnumhotep II at Beni Hassan

The special focus of the article are the shafts in the Middle Kingdom tomb of Khnumhotep II at Beni Hassan. One of them has significantly different dimensions and proportions. A comparison with findings at el-Hawawish (tomb of Qereri, Q15) leads to the suggestion that the curious foruth shaft could be a pool.
