The province of the Fayoum provided excellent hunting and fishing for the rulers of the 12th Dynasty, who located their capital city near the Fayoum, near modern El-Lisht. The article assesses the significance of the excavations at the workmen's town of Kahun, the objects and papyri, as well as the information on the presence of an immigrant population and local religious and magico-religious practices.
