Excavations were conducted at the Temple of Seth and have revealed that the first major occupation of the site occurred in the Old Kingdom as evidenced by structures and ceramics (from Sheikh Muftah unit and Meidum bowls imported from the Nile Valley). Inscriptional material relates to Dynasties 11 and 18-26 with associated ceramics. Among the illustrated finds are the fragment of a falcon-headed sphinx, and a fragmentary fecundity figure, and several Bes jars.
