In 1991, the Dakhleh Oasis Project began excavating the temple at Ismant el-Kharab. The finds of the first season already confirm the name of the main deity as Tutu, Tithoes in Greek and known from five lines of Greek text probably written in the reign of the Roman emperor Antoninus Pius (AD 138-161). The article provides a general description of the extraordinary deity, Tutu's iconography and information gained about his cult.
