The study presents an overview of large stone construction from as early as the Early Dynastic period. The sites of Abydos, Saqqara, Helwan, Karara, Tarkhan, Hierakonpolis, Elkab, Armant and abu Roash are reviewed and compared. Sophisticated knowledge of engineering is revealed from this early time.
